Among the top ten fairy tale destinations in Europe, Corvin Castle, also known as Hunyadi Castle or Hunedoara Castle is a Gothic Renaissance castle in Hunedoara, Romania. It is one of the largest castles in Europe and figures in a top of seven wonders of Romania.

The History

The castle was built by the Anjou family on the site of a former Roman camp. The castle served as a fortress until the mid-14th century when it became the residence of Transylvania's ruler, Iancu de Hunedoara. He successfully upgraded the fortress transforming it into the most stunning castle in Transylvania.

The View

The castle lays on a rock around which flows the small river of Zlasti, and has an impressive draw bridge from which at any moment you expect a prince in shining armor to rush off the big gates.
