About
There are six Dacian Fortresses in total among the Orăștie Mountains: Sarmizegetusa (Regia), Blidaru, Luncani-Piatra Roşie, Costeşti-Cetăţuia, Căpâlna and Baniţa, all built between the 1st Century BCE and the 1st Century by the Dacian people to defend against the Roman Empire.
Sarmizegetusa Regia is an extensive set of ruins of a city, which was once the capital of the Dacian Kingdom, and represents the finest set of remains of the Dacian Fortresses of the Orastie Mountains.

The view
The ruins are atop a hill, which commands superb views across the surrounding lands, making it once an excellent defensive position. Many building foundations remain, as well as Dacian roads of exceptional quality. There is also a large sundial, the Andesite Sun, suggesting that the Dacians had clear understanding of rudimentary astronomy and geometry.
