The saline is found in Ardeal, in an area so called “Salt land (Ținutul sării)”.
This name was mentioned for the first time in sec XVIII and came after the existent salt ore in the area.

History

This amazingly useful mineral - one of the biggest Romania's riches - was discovered in Neolithic when man used it as an ingredient for seasoning the food. In our country are about 200 known deposits and about 2000 salt rock manifestations. Slanic Prahova (the biggest one in Europe) and Turda are the most popular Romanian salt mines.

The 7 holy salt deposits

Romania is home to a few marvelous salt deposits. Slanic Prahova, Praid, Târgu Ocna, Ocnele Mari – Ocnița – Priporu, Cacica, Ocna Mureș și Dejului are the seven fields that are currently in operation. They hold over 12 billion tons of geological reserves of rock salt total quantity that can ensure the country's needs hundreds of years. Currently all mines are transformed into recreation areas and invites people to have that fun therapy for their whole body.
