Romania is said to have 2,500 lakes and the largest ones are along the Danube River and the Black Sea coast. Some of those, including the largest, the 390-square kilometer Lake Razim, are saltwater lakes, or lagoons that are open to the sea. The many smaller ones scattered throughout the mountains are usually glacial in origin and add much to the beauty of the resort areas.
